The Roots and Rest Inn a 3D water colour study inspired by the illustrative works of Beatrix potter. For this piece I wanted to improve my texture, composition and colour workflows. On a recent trip to the Isle of Wight I came across an interesting tree stump. I then used this a reference for the scene. The scene was made in Unreal Engine and uses only unlit shaders; no lighting is present in the scene to try an achieve as close a look as I could to classic children's watercolour illustrations.
For this project I also made unique watercolour and ink line generators in substance designer that can mask and select areas on the mesh based on baked world space normal's. Quite happy with the results
